THE SAVANNAH'S BACK
The clone is a request to allow the exemption for a similar
size bar/restaurant to be continued. The hearing went
forward on March 3, 1999, with several resident witnesses
appearing. Bill Roberts spoke in favour of the City's
amendment deleting the permission for a larger restau-
rant/bar. Unfortunately Barry Brooks took violently ill
and the hearing was adjourned to 29 April, 1999. The City
planner involved is Barry Brooks 392 - 0758.
GAS BARS
SARA continues to monitor the City wide proposals.
SARA and the Ripley Area Residents Group were the only
ratepayer associations to attend at City Hall. The other
speakers were gas companies. We were successful in having
changes made in the guidelines to protect neighbourhoods
and environmentally sensitive areas. We continued to press
for control of neon lighting and were successful in this as
well as having the lighting reviewed to tighten the standards. Bill Roberts appeared for SARA and Ron Braun who
is on the SARA executive appeared for Ripley Area Residents. Victoria Masnyk is deeply involved as are the other
member of our Executive on the sub-committee dealing
with gas bars and related issues. See hours of operation.
HOURS OF OPERATION OF GAS BARS
SARA through Bill Roberts happened to notice an add in
the Toronto Star that seemed to impact on the hours of
operation. Bill Roberts and Victoria Masnyk pursued the
matter and SARA alone of the various ratepayers in the
City appeared to oppose an attempt to weaken the protection of residential areas. We were successful in having the
matter sent back. Victoria Masnyk appeared on behalf of
SARA. We will continue to monitor this matter. We would
suggest that those persons who are concerned may wish to
contact the City to be put on a notice list.

SOUTH KINGSWAY- HUMBER BRIDGES
We continue to monitor the progress of the bridges. For
more information contact Metro Roads at 599-9090 or
SARA's contact, G. Martinsons at 766-1734. However, we
remain concerned that the City may not ensure that a
bike/pedestrian path will exist on both the west and east
sides of the Humber.
HIGH PARK ADVISORY COMMITTEE
1. Bell is helping to coordinate the volunteers to complete
the Children's Playground project in High Park, from
Wednesday the 26th to, and including, Sunday 30th of

Jamie for more details at 604-7421.

SARA continues to monitor the issue of community
councils and the ward boundary issue.
GARDINER LAKESHORE TASKFORCE
SARA continues to monitor this committee's work. Bill
Roberts is our contact on this body, and S. Wilkinson the
alternate. The City continues to seriously consider turning
the Gardiner into a privatized toll road.
PETRO CANADA ON SOUTH KINGSWAY
(HUMBER)
The Board has issued a formal order in a form close to
that approved by all parties, though for a period of time
it was nip and tuck as to whether this would happen. The
Board was inclined to a simpler order. Thanks to the
support of the City solicitor and the comments of Bill
Roberts, this did not happen. The issue of hours of
operation still remains to be dealt with at a later date.
SARA supports the Ripley Area Residents Group in resisting any extension of the hours of operation. The Ripley
Area Residents Group chose not to oppose the two signs
in exchange for certain conditions on the colour of the
roof of the gas bar and the requirement that one of the
signs not be illuminated.
